ABOUT ICODA- Awards and Recognitions

Marlee Matlin got her start with ICODA’s Children’s Theatre at the age of seven.  She went on to win the 1987 Best Actress Academy Award for her work as Sarah in Children of a Lesser God.  Shortly after winning the Academy Award, Matlin returned to ICODA to visit and celebrate her recent success.  While speaking to aspiring performers she said, “I first came to ICODA as a young girl.  I really love this place.  It gave me the opportunity to grow, love and learn many things.”

Since then, Marlee starred for two seasons on “Reasonable Doubts” with Mark Harmon and was twice nominated for Emmy Awards for her guest appearances on NBC’s Seinfeld and CBS’s Picket Fences.  Most recently, Marlee has appeared on Desperate Housewives, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and My Name is Earl.  She is the author of “Deaf Child Crossing” and has written two sequels:  “Nobody’s Perfect” in 2006 and “Leading Ladies” which will be released in 2007.
