ICODA PROGRAMS - Camp

ATTENTION  Actors, Artists & Dancers… THIS IS THE CAMP FOR YOU!!!

Meet other Deaf & Hard of Hearing Teens from all over the country!The International Creative Arts Camp will be holding a week long overnight camp in Oregon, IL.  Deaf & Hard of Hearing students grades 8-12 interested in Art, Dance or Drama are encouraged to apply!
Goals of the Int’l Creative Arts Camp:

  • Recognize young artists & their work
  • Provide a forum for peer interaction
  • Encourage young artists to cultivate their creative talents
  • Promote creativity through fun writing exercises
  • Increase awareness of the benefits of an arts education within the Deaf community.

Participate in different Workshops!We are looking for students who have a real interest and love for the arts.  Students who would like to explore their talent and at the same time, meet other Deaf kids with the same interests from all across the country!
You should have an interest/talent in one of the categories listed below:

  • Visual Arts—Drawing, Painting, Computer Graphics
  • Drama—Scene Study, Monologue Development, Mime & ASL Poetry
  • Dance—Jazz, Hip Hop & Modern with Interpreted Song

We will be selecting 30 students (15 boys & 15 girls) for this years camp, in order to be considered you must:

  • Complete the application  (Click here to PRINT AN APPLICATION)
  • Send a current photo & two letters of recommendation from a teacher, coach, etc.
  • Include a $15 check for the application fee.
  • Mail everything to us by Friday, March 16, 2007.

Students will be informed by Monday, April 16, 2007 if they have been accepted to the camp at which point they will be sent additional information.  Then, in June, students will be flown into Illinois for a unique opportunity to work with        distinguished Deaf artists, writers & performers.  Students will attend workshops taught by our Guest Instructors & will have the opportunity to participate in various social activities with other Deaf and Hard of Hearing teens from all over the country.

WHEN is camp and WHERE is it located?
On Saturday, June 16th, all campers will be brought to Northbrook, IL for an overnight stay.  Then, on Sunday, we will travel to the campsite which will be at the Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center (LOMC) in Oregon, IL (approximately two hours west of ICODA’s main office building).   We will stay at the camp from Sunday, June 17th - Friday, June 22nd and then return to Northbrook for one more overnight stay before going home on Saturday, June 23rd.  LOMC is fully equipped to provide us with all kinds of social activities, including:  Canoeing, Swimming, Hiking, Team Building activities, Sports and Bonfires!  Check out their website for more information on the location.  www.lomc.org 

What does all this cost?

  • There is a non-refundable $15.00 Application Fee that must be submitted by March 16, 2007.
  • If you are accepted to camp, there is a $200.00 Material Fee.  This will cover all materials needed for daytime workshops, group social activities in the evening as well as a Camp T-Shirt!  
  • If you are accepted to Camp, ICODA will pay for:  Your travel expenses, lodging and meals.
