ICODA PROGRAMS - Teacher Training Program and I.O.I.

The most exciting project in ICODA’s history is under way! A partnership between Illinois State University, Oakton Community College & ICODA has been established for the primary purpose of training teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing in the Chicagoland area.

The project is to be housed in a new facility to be hopefully located in the Northern Suburbs.

Currently, a critical teacher shortage exists across our country with Teachers of the Deaf at the top of the list. In Illinois there is no university training program in the Northern part of the state where 80% of the deaf children reside and the professionals in the filed work. In addition to the lack of facilities, vast changes have occurred in the field of deafness due to technological advances. The school system and the Universities have, for the most part, adapted to these changes. The partnerships established by ICODA has been developed to meet these needs and is the first program in the country to have graduate level work in the field of Cochlear Implants.

In the IOI Project, ICODA maintains its role on the cutting edge of all advancements.
